Last night, all football lovers had a rare chance to watch a wonderful feast in the Champions League quarter final match between Liverpool and Chelsea. After 90 minutes of break neck competition, Chelsea finally managed to get through to the semi final. Congratulations to them, and my sympathy to Liverpool. They have done their best, but their best was still not good enough.

The first half belonged to Liverpool totally. They controlled the game, the pace and managed to score 2 precious goals. Everything looked very rosy for them, as they had 45 more minutes just to score one more goal to get through to the semi final. An achievable task given their superior performance in the first half of the game.
Chelsea made a lot of mistakes in the first 45 minutes. Their defense was flawed and their attacks were weak. They could not put much pressure on the Liverpool defenders, and the first goal was the result of their unorganized defense against the Liverpool's free kick.

However, things changed totally in the second half. After the break, Chelsea came out much stronger, determined and dangerous. Shortly after the game resumed, Reina, Liverpool's goalkeeper, made a grave mistake by pushing the ball into his own goal, and the game has changed since that very moment.
Liverpool lost confidence. That goal meant they had to score one more to go for extra time, and at least two for securing victory within 90 minutes. But that was not the worst part. The worst effect of that goal was that it made Liverpool lose steam and awoke the Chelsea fighters. They were more determined, fully awaken and alert, and became themselves again. Two more goals came in a short while for Chelsea, shattering the dream of Liverpool fans.
But Liverpool has not given up, not yet. They attacked like there was no tomorrow, and they managed to score two more goals. There was not much time left, around 10 minutes, and they needed one more goal. So they kept pressing harder and harder. Then shortly before the game ended, there was one more goal, the last goal of the game. However, that goal was not Liverpool's. It was Chelsea's. A perfect shot by Frank Lampard and the game virtually ended at that very moment.
There was too little time left for Liverpool to score 2 more goals. Their journey has ended there, and they should starting shifting their focus back to the Premier League race against Manchester United in the bid to win at least one title this season.
